Toran Making Activity – Std. III to V

Makar Sankranti is celebrated with different names and customs in different parts of India. The festival is known as Lohri in North India, Makar Sankranti in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, Magh Bihu in Assam, and Pongal in Tamil Nadu. The day marks the winter solstice. Makar Sankranti, a harvest festival, brings forth generosity, harmony, gratitude and love amongst people. To celebrate the festival, the students of Std.III to Std.V were asked to make torans which they can use to decorate their homes to please and attract the Goddess of wealth, Lakshmi. They created beautiful torans and decorated them aesthetically. The students actively participated and thoroughly enjoyed the activity.
