Athapookalam Design Activity – Std. III to Std. V

As part of the Onam celebrations, an Athapookalam Design Drawing Activity was conducted for the Upper Primary students on Monday, August 24, 2026. The activity provided the children with an opportunity to learn about the cultural significance of Athapookkalam while expressing their creativity through art. The teachers introduced the concept of Athapookkalam and explained its significance in the Onam celebrations. A variety of traditional and contemporary designs were displayed on the classroom TV to inspire the young learners. The students were then provided with A4-size sheets and encouraged to create their own designs. Using circular-shaped objects as guides, the children drew beautiful patterns and filled them with intricate designs. They enthusiastically experimented with colours and patterns, showcasing their imagination and artistic skills. The activity was an engaging and enriching experience that helped the students appreciate the cultural traditions of Onam while fostering creativity, concentration, and an appreciation for art and heritage.
