Athapookalam Competition – Std. III to V
Onam brings joy and warmth into the lives of Malayalis, transcending the boundaries of religion and beliefs. A flower carpet ‘Athapookkalam’ making Competition as part of the Onam celebration that was conducted on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 for the students of Std. III, IV and V. On 10th September clad in traditional white saree with golden borders, teachers got busy embellishing the floral patterns, depicting the landscape and culture of Kerala. The competition was conducted in the respectives classrooms according to the instruction given to the students. Children brought different coloured flowers and categorized them according to their colours. The children drew a design on the classroom floor with the help of their teachers. They arranged the flowers on the floor to make artistic motifs of floral carpet, ‘Athapookalam’ in their respective classes. Children also went around to see and appreciate the ‘Pookkalam’ put in their adjacent classrooms as well. The ‘Pookalams’ were judged by the art teachers according to the Organization of Ideas, Colour Combination, Presentation and Design.
